Stars of Sussex cricket at St James’s Montefiore this Sunday

STARS of the county game as well as England will be taking to the field at St James’s Montefiore on Sunday in a special game of cricket.

Sussex cricket legends Neil Lenham, James Kirtley, Robin Martin-Jenkins, Tony Pigott, David Smith, Richard Montgomery, Jason Lewry and Alan Wells will play for Neil Lenham’s XI versus St James’s Montefiore Cricket Club.

The game starts at 2pm on Sunday (September 11) at St James’s ground, Keymer Road, Ditchling, Sussex. The 30-over-a-side match, which is free for the public to watch, is to raise funds for junior net practice facilities at St James’s Montefiore CC.

On the day visitors can enjoy free entry to the match, food served by several outside catering stalls, table-top sales, organised garden games for children and a public raffle. The Club’s bar is licensed for all day opening.

An U11s six-a-side Kwikcricket competition involving teams from local cricket clubs will begin on the ground at 9.30am.

St James’s Montefiore CC runs four senior Saturday XIs, two Sunday XIs and an over 40s midweek side. St James’s youth cricket involves more than 150 boys and girls from age six to 18. The club is a Focus Club and is registered under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Club Mark scheme. St James’s 20-plus ECB qualified coaches carry out cricket training in Brighton schools under the ECB’s Chance to Shine national scheme. For more information visit the site
