Steve’s fightback is Horsham Squash highlight

Steve Bowers produced the performance of the night in Horsham Squash Club’s Over 35s tournament, as he came from 2-0 down to beat Neil Jenkins in the D final.

Jenkins was cruising after 9-6, 9-6 wins but some well executed shots saw Bowers fight back for a 3-2 win.

Elsewhere, John Barnbrook saw off Ahmet Ahmet’s recovery in the C final. The two third team players know each other’s games well but thanks to a cautious statr from Ahmet, Barnbrook marched into a 2-0 lead after 9-4, 9-5 wins. Ahmet ercovered in the third but it was too little too late as Barnbrook secured the trophy with a 10-8 margin of victory.

The B final again was contested by two team mates in Chris Mason and Duncan Davidson, with the former coming through to win 3-0. It was a flattering scoreline, as Davidson pushed Mason in the first two games (9-7, 10-8) but ran out of steam in the third, losing 9-4.

And yhe main final saw current club champion James Norman face Roger Hainsworth (2010 champion), and Norman got off to a flier with a 9-0 win in the opening game. Hainsworth had other ideas in the second and squeezed through to win 9-8. The third and fourth games and victory went to Norman though 9-3, 9-3 as he extend the length of the rallies, testing Hainsworth fitness, which in the end told.
