Stirlands are sent spinning by Benn

LITTLEHAMPTON Cricket Club comprehensively won at Stirlands on Saturday to move back into the promotion places.

Stirlands, however, were without several players who were all attending the wedding of all-rounder Danny Cox.

Littlehampton arrived needing to collect a full 30 points to maintain their challenge for an immediate return to Premier Division action, and got their intended haul only after being made to battle at times against a Stirlands team who added in determination what might have been missing in ability.

Benn Challen, having won the toss for Littlehampton, unsurprisingly chose to bat first on a glorious afternoon. It also gave the nine batsmen not at the wicket the chance to watch the England match, a fact betrayed by the huge roar emanating from the bar at about five past two.

And it was Challen who wrapped up the victory with a fantastic spell of off-spin bowling, collecting 6-16, reducing Stirlands from 99-4 to 156 all out in the process.
