STUMBLING STEYNING

AN EARLY collapse at Worthing on Saturday meant Steyning were defeated in their first-ever match in top-flight Sussex Cricket.

They were not going to get enough runs on the board to trouble Worthing after the top-order clatter.

Jamie Carpenter perhaps suffered the most unfortunate dismissal, falling to a superb reflex catch at second slip by Worthing's new overseas player Jamie Forbes when on 19.

Carpenter said that although winning the toss, batting in the worst of conditions was their option in an attempt to get more points.

He added, that with another few runs they could easily have won, but they definitely have things to build on for the rest of the season.
