Sully to step down from Sidley role

GLEN SULLY is stepping down as Sidley United joint manager at the end of the season.

Sully cited a lack of commitment from some of the players as the over-riding reason.

He informed chairman Dickie Day and fellow joint manager Peter Heritage after Saturday's win over Shoreham and notified the players following Tuesday's defeat at Burgess Hill.

His resignation brings the curtain down on more than six years of loyal and unstinting service to the Gullivers club.

Sully admitted it was a tough decision to make but had become increasingly frustrated with the approach of certain players.

He said: "I expect players to be as committed themselves as I am but people who live almost on the doorstep haven't been turning up. There's been a number of times this season where players have appeared to have preferred to do other things.

"It's not just confined to training," he went on. "It was spreading to people not wanting to play in games."

He went on: "The lads that are there are a super bunch and I don't want it construed that it's all the players and it's a massive problem at the club because it's not. But I've got to get some enjoyment from it."

Sidley visit Pagham on Saturday April 19 before making the short trek to Hailsham Town on Easter Monday.
