Sun shines on rugby tournament

Summer returned for just one more day as Hastings & Bexhill RFC hosted its annual minis tournament.

The preceding week had seen rain and gusty winds which looked like making the festival a potential washout. But the rugby gods were smiling and a fantastic day’s rugby was staged.

More than 1,000 players aged from six to 12 from over 60 teams, and even more parents and coaches, visited the William Parker-based club on Sunday.

Minis chairman Martyn Amess said: “Everyone enjoyed themselves and I can commend all the players, coaches and parents for their excellent support and friendly atmosphere that typifies our ethos of rugby at H&B.”

He went on to thank the numerous volunteers including club chairman Jerry Hohenkerk and students from Bexhill High School’s elite sporting academy.

All of H&B’s teams performed well with the under-8s narrowly missing out on their final. Ferocious tackling and exceptional ball-play saw the under-9s earn a deserved place in their final.
