Super Sophie races to county title

A SPRIGHTLY young athlete from a Bexhill school has earned the proud distinction of being a county cross-country champion.

Sophie Hunnisett, of Chantry County Primary School, won the year five and six girls' race at the East Sussex Schools' Cross-Country Championships.

The year six pupil, who finished third in the same event last year, crossed the finish line approximately 30 metres clear of the 60-80 strong field over the 2.8 kilometre course at Eastbourne Sports Park.

"She ran very well," said Carolyn Baxter, deputy head at Chantry. "She loves her running and she's got a lot of determination."

Sophie was also victorious in the Bexhill and Hastings district rounds which qualified her for the finals two weeks ago.

"She likes her running," added father Chris, a consistent run-getter for Sidley Cricket Club, "and obviously she's got a bit of a talent for it."
