Sussex announce signing of Pakistani pace bowler Gul

Sussex have signed Pakistani International pace bowler Umar Gul for their Friends Life t20 campaign which begins next month.

The 27 year-old right-armer has played 34 tests, 88 one-day internationals and 34 T20 internationals since making his debut for Pakistan in 2003, having only played nine first-class matches at the time.

He has taken over 300 wickets in all three international formats of the game and has hauled himself to the status of being one of the finest international one-day bowlers in the world.

Gul will be joining The PROBIZ County Ground outfit for the competition they won in 2009, with the Sharks looking to go all the way again with the added firepower amongst the ranks.

Gul said. “I am delighted to be joining Sussex for the 2011 t20 campaign. I am really looking forward to helping the Sharks return to both Finals Day and the Champions League.

“Coming to Sussex is a privilege and the chance to follow in the footsteps of other Pakistani greats from Imran Khan to Mushtaq Ahmed, and to Rana Naved in the current team, is very exciting.”

Sussex’s Professional Cricket Manager Mark Robinson said, “We’re delighted that Umar has agreed to join us for the Friends Life t20.

“The prospect of having two of the world’s best t20 bowlers in Rana Naved and Umar, bowling in tandem, is a mouthwatering one”.
