Sussex County cricketers swap bats for boots

FIRST team players from Sussex Cricket Club swapped their bats for boots as they took on Seaford in the official opening match under the newly installed floodlights at The Crouch.

Seaford soon began to show they were the footballing side and quickly went 1-0 up through Tom Callaghan blasting the ball home.

Sussex captain and veteran Chris Adams then equalised for the cricketers but the score didn't stay level for long. Adam Kneller scored undoubtedly the best goal of the match with an acrobatic volley from a corner to regain the lead.

Two more goals from Steven Peachey and Callaghan were added to Seafords account before half time, with Sussex keeper Ben Brown making some excellent saves to keep the score to four.

The second half started as the first half finished with sub Scott Dartnall taking the score to 5-1.

Archie Macabie then got the sixth as Ollie Raynor, deployed as a centre back, looked truly out of place and became frustrated with some lunging tackles.

However, the 'Sharks' did score a goal any footballer would have been proud of when Tom Smith belted the ball into the roof of the net from 30 yards.

Seaford still had time to add a couple more goals with Sussex also grabbing a third to leave the final score 8-3 to Seaford in an entertaining and competitive game.
