Sussex sea anglers stuck in port

Persistent windy weather and rough sea conditions on the south coast have made sea angling, especially on the boats, a near non-existent activity over the past few weeks.

Understandably the majority of local angling boats haven’t ventured out of harbour. During December, if we are lucky enough to get a break in the windy

conditions, fish are certainly targetable from both shore and the boats.

Cod and whiting as well as bonus bass are the species to keep the shore anglers busy, with flatties and nuisance doggies and pout feeding on ad bait presented in front of them.

Out on the boats, cod, whiting, bass, plaice, rays and even black bream are still snatching presented baits. Bass shore fishing on soft plastics and surface poppers is still worth a go if the water clarity clears in colourisation – working around the early and evening tides is best.
