Suzy's successful summer pays off

A SUCCESSFUL summer on the tennis courts of the south for Suzy Larkin has been capped by the retention of her funding from the Lawn Tennis Association.

The 12-year-old member at The Green LTC has, for the third year running, been selected for the LTA's Futures Programme, which is currently undergoing extensive changes, following a successful assessment at Bisham.

The upshot of this award, for which only the elite 15 or so boys and girls in each age group throughout the country qualify, is that her coach will receive 1,000 from the British game's governing body towards further tuition and that her progress will be monitored regularly by an area assessor.

Father Ted said: "It goes a long way to coaching expenditure and it makes a big difference. It really encourages her and it gives her a feeling of worth.

"She did acquit herself well (at Bisham where she won three of her five matches, including the impressive scalp of Sabrina Stewart who won each of her other matches) and they felt it appropriate to re-select her for the Futures. I think she deserves it. She's working hard and she wants to win."

The Sussex 12 and under champion attends Claverham Community College and is sponsored by 1066 Sporting Club.
