Blades A narrowed the gap at the top to three points with just one match to go during a brilliant 6-3 win in the top of the table clash against leaders Crawley Community A.

Crawley’s Paul Carter had a tough opener against 15-year-old George Hazell going two games down and also trailing 1-6 in the fifth recovering to win 11-8.

In a big-hitting contest Blades’ Matt Pernet played superbly to claw his way back from six match points down to beat top of the averages Carter 12-10 in the decider.

Crawley’s Shaun Parsley repeated his early season victory over Steve Barby, again winning close in five. Carter beat Barby comfortably and Phil Richardson narrowly lost to the same player 8 in the decider.

Foresters A gained ground with a comfortable 8-1 win against Horsham A. Gary Pells clinched a good win over Kate Cheer while Harry Collins pushed her to five. The double act of Wes and Adam won all their matches convincingly.

Foresters D’s Dave Steel scored an impressive maximum against the Horsham A trio of Steve Pound, Rory Scott and Matt van Yperen during a 5-4 win.

Blades B beat strugglers Horsham B 6-3, Horsham’s Steve Hoad produced a good win over Michael Bridger, Graham Barnes (Horsham) beat Graham Carter deuce in the fifth. Erik Van Mol, Graham Carter and Michael won two each.

Foresters C squeezed home 5-4 against Trinity A. Foresters’ Adam Daley continued his great run of form with a fine treble over Graham Beaney, Joe Comper and John Robinson.
