TABLE TENNIS: Foresters chop down leaders Crawley

Foresters A inflicted the first defeat of the season on Crawley Community A, Foresters B and Blades A took full advantage with good wins to close the gap on the leaders.

The battle of the number ones proved decisive with Foresters’ Wes Bush-Harris prevailing in four against Crawley’s Paul Carter.

Crawley’s Barrie Gilbert had a desperately close match with Foresters’ Kate Cheer just edging it 11-8 in the fifth.

Phil Richardson produced some of his old sparkle against Kate finishing with two blistering winners, Adam Todd was solid winning two matches.

Blades A had a hard fought 9-0 win over Blades B, George Hazell continued his impressive run winning all of his matches three straight against good players. Graham Carter lost narrowly in five to Tony Catt and against Steve Barby he held two match points before succumbing 14-12 in the fifth.

Foresters B made up ground with a 6-3 win over Trinity A.

Matt Craig, Dan Pound and Jan Collado all beat Graham Beaney and Joe Comper however none of them could overcome the amazingly consistent supervet John Robinson who won his matches comfortably.

Foresters D and C teams had a close encounter, James Wheatley scored an impressive win over in-form Prakash Varsani 7 in the fifth.

Prakash won two as did Johnny Clarke and Dave Steel. All of the D team beat Barry Cheer.

Copthorne had a tight affair with Horsham A just going down 5-4, Stuart Brooks and Chris Pullinger had excellent wins over Horsham No.1 Harry Collins.

Gary Bristowe weighed with two more wins over Steve Hoad and Dennis Hayden.

Horsham Spinners A defeated their B team 6-3 with Tom Pomej, Tony Morris and Alan Stone all beating Matt Van Yperen. Rory Scott and Steve Pound won three each.

Crawley Community B won 6-3 against Horsham B with newcomer Shaun Parsley who is playing in his second spell at the club, winning three.

Graham Green won two and young Holly Holder achieved an excellent victory against seasoned veteran John Hook.
