Taher displays Arabian might by taking championship

NICKY Smith of Haslemere achieved an outstanding success at the South of England Show with her Arab gelding Taher crowned champion of the Arab breeding classes.

Taher (10), who is by Narim R A S B out of Queens Topaz, won the Arab gelding class and the Arab stallion class and was named Arab Senior Male Champion before going on to take the overall championship from horses from all over the south-east.

It is extremely rare for a gelding to be made overall champion at a show of this standing '“ in itself a fine tribute to the quality of Taher.

Nicky (28), who in her professional life is Dr Nicola Smith and a research scientist and lecturer at Farnborough, spent her childhood as a member of Chiddingfold, Leconfield and Cowdray point-to-point.

She started helping out as a student at the Al Waha Arabian stud, which has produced many champion Arabs over the years. The relationship between Nicola and Taher began at the stud near her home.
