Team defeat but wins forChris and Adam could be vital for Weald’s survival

Struggling for players, the Weald’s 2nd team did well to pick up two wins at Corals 5ths. They were hoping the vital points could save them from relegation.

Keeping his run going, Chris Torney played a confident and tactical game to win in three, while despite being short of match practice, Adam Baines-Jump scampered around court, keeping the ball tight and making the most of his opponent’s mistakes to win in four.

Stepping in at short notice, James Holloway struggled to keep up with the fast courts at Hove as he went down in three in a well fought battle; Noel Poncelet found himself outclassed by a younger, fitter player who put away any loose lobs into the front nicks to win in three; and Dave Jump lost in four despite having game ball in the second and taking the third with some outrageous drops.
