“It was great to see so many players on the courts and there were some very entertaining, competitive matches played, reflecting yet again an impressive year on year improvement in standard especially amongst our younger finalists,” said Billingshurst LTC chairman Richard Cordy.

“Lockdown was hard for everyone but we worked hard to get the club open as soon as we were given the go ahead by the Lawn Tennis Association. The courts have been constantly in use ever since, which has been great to see.”

Earlier this year, the club was awarded the prestigious Tennis Sussex Club of the Year 2019 accolade, which is decided following receipt of the nominations by the members, and the wider public.

“It’s obviously been a strange time to be club of the year, especially not being able to play for so many weeks during lockdown,” added Richard. “But we’re back up and running and we’ve got lots of sessions going on for players of all levels and abilities, as well as several teams entering the county league events.”

Along with a successful training programme for juniors, which has seen several juniors selected for county training squads, there are sessions for adult beginners and improvers, as well as individual coaching and fun club evenings. The club is also keen to attract new players to compete for Billingshurst in the league matches.

“We were really proud to be named club of the year and it’s down the hard work of committee members, coaching staff, and our loyal members,” said Richard.
