Tennis table top spot is Meads ladies' reward

Meads Ladies, playing in the Wilson Sandford doubles league, consolidated top spot in their division with a 2-2 draw at Billingshurst.

Jessica Gisby and Polly McCarthy faced a strong Billingshurst first pair and fought hard but were beaten in straight sets. The Meads second pair of Hazel Sneath and Mary Thorn also lost.

Undaunted, the Meads ladies adjusted. Both pairs took a set 6-0 with Sneath and Thorn completing victory in a 6-2 second set while Gisby and McCarthy triumphed 6-4 in the second set. The previous weekend was busy for the Meads tennis club with numerous teams in action. Meads men’s seconds boosted their promotion hopes with a hard fought 3-1 victory at East Hoathly.

Noel Bennett and Mike Dixon made errors in a straight sets defeat. Nick Price and Bernard Lien-Lambert came through 6-4; 6-3.

Bennett and Dixon then raced to a 6-1; 6-1 victory whilst Price and Lien-Lambert won in a tie break.

The Meads ladies firsts (pictured) won a shootout 2-1 at Crawley after a 3-3 draw.

Lucy Parkin, Polly McCarthy, Jess Gisby and Yvo Miles shone in the win. The Meads ladies thirds drew with Cross In Hand thanks to Debbie Jolly, Ann Win, Terri Marzoli and Glenda Pelling.
