The Pool League find arch rivals the Snoooker League at the top of their game

The Mid Sussex Pool League, the current holders of the Mid Sussex Challenge Trophy, found their arch rivals the Snooker League producing top of their game performances at the Mid Sussex Conservative Club.

Lee Cannizzaro came to the table with guns blazing delivering stylish displays in both categories by winning his one frame snooker 59-10 and the best of three at pool 2-0, his opponent the tenacious Tim Wright put up a brave fight. The marauding Martin Batchelor followed suit beating the robust Dominic Ridley 42-20 and 2-0 to give the snooker team a 4-0 advantage.

The success story continued as the brilliance of Neil Baker’s game saw him take out the highly rated Paul Hitchen 66-18 and 2-0 and it took the proud Phil Hubble to stop the rot against Barry Williams by winning on the small table 2-0, however, the wizardry of Williams was rewarded onThe Mid Sussex Pool League, the current holders of the annual Mid Sussex Ch the large table 58-20.

The Pool Team looked bewildered at their slow start and with Paul Friend coming to the baize renowned for his top class ability at both categories they felt confident of of turning things around, they were not disappointed, up against the tough nut to crack John Whittingham, the flamboyant Friend homed in 48-36 and 2-0.

The two Vince’s were drawn together and it was the elegant Elphick who extended his team’s lead outsmarting the spirited Skinner 60-23 and 2-1. The classy Callum Tomsett was up against Pool’s Kevin Myles, the mighty Myles took the snooker frame 61-30 but it was the crafty display of Tomsett which astonished the enthusiastic audience as he succeeded in the pool frame 2-0.

The Snooker Team now had a 10-4 lead which meant that their opponents required to win all remaining frames to take the draw, the dynamic Dean Cave meant business with his top form performance to give his team a boost by taking out the battling Barry Martin 47-37 and 2-0. Alas, his sterling efforts were in vain as the focussed Ian Janman outwitted the determined debutant Ady Buckfield 56-41 and 2-1.

The rip roaring Dennis O’Rourke shone in his 47-4 snooker frame win over Julie Hitchen 47-4, however, in the two tight pool frames, the jovial Hitchen edged home 2-0. The Snooker Team succeeded regaining the trophy 13-7, the matches were well marshalled by referees Dennis Wakeford and Colin Selby and the raffle raised £83 which will be donated to the winning team’s chosen charity.
