There's no foiling Chichester's title-winning fencers

Chichester Fencing Club's junior members have again been winning important titles '“ and they've been doing it in style.

At the Junior Team Sussex Foil Championships, held in Brighton for the first time this year, Chichester fielded four very strong teams, all of whom fenced extremely well, with some competing in a Sussex championship for the very first time.

Competing were Nancy Mitchell, Angle Bull, Robin Elliott, Tom Raymond-Wells, Charlotte Beadle, Oscar Pickering, Archie Evans, Isaac Jolley, Oliver Hayward, Matt Warwick and Oscar O’Hara.

Each one fenced superbly with the youngest teams narrowly missing out on the medals by two points, a wonderful achievement for such young fencers who didn’t let the age - or size - of their fellow competitors deter them, but fenced brilliantly all day.

Warwick, O’Hara and Hayward, who were Chichester’s senior team and regular medallists, were unfazed by the pressure of the club having held the title for many years.

All three were brilliant and won through to the final, which they won. They were a pleasure for everyone to watch and were proud winners of the title and trophy they had won last year with a slightly different team.

The fencers’ coach was extremely pleased and proud of them, not just for their beautiful fencing but also for their lovely sportsmanship and manners.
