‘This is why you want to be a professional’ – Glenn Murray on Manchester City clash

City will be crowned Premier League champions if they win but Albion go into the game with confidence after a strong performance in their 1-1 draw at Arsenal at the weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won 13 successive Premier League matches and top-scorer Murray admits playing in games like this is why people become professional footballers.

He said: “It’s going to be another fantastic fixture to be involved in. They’re going for the Premier League and we’ll be trying to keep the integrity of the league and give a good account of ourselves.

“It’s really nice to be involved in games that matter. This is why you want to be a professional to play against the best.

“This week we possibly play against the best in the Premier League.”

Murray supported Manchester United growing up and looking at the title race, he said: “It doesn’t really matter who wins. It’s just about us and about giving a good account of ourselves.

“It’s just nice to be involved in games like that at the end of the league.”

Murray felt the Seagulls got back to what they are good at in the draw with Arsenal and said: “Everyone has been out to call us and give us a hard time through the end of January, February, March.

“I feel as though we’ve pulled together. We’ve got back to basics and back to doing what Brighton are good at which is trying to keep the opposition at bay and then working off the back of that and trying to create chances which I felt we did well.

“It’s good for the league that we didn’t roll over and let Arsenal get what they wanted which was to stay in the running for fourth place.

“We tried our best and we did it for us. It means we go into next season not on the back of a number of defeats or whatever.

“We’re an honest group and we always try to pick up as many points as possible no matter the situation.”

Murray’s equaliser at Arsenal was his 12th Premier League goal of the season and matched his league tally from last year.

The frontman said: “You want to do as well if not better than the previous year. I alluded to it that I don’t think we’ve created as many opportunities as last year.

“To get this number, I’m content but I wouldn’t say I’m happy.”

Sunday’s game kicks-off at 3pm.
