Thommo grabs Wickers a point

LEE THOMPSON'S penalty two minutes from time gave Southwick Football Club a well-earned point at league-leaders Pagham on Tuesday.

Wickers had already missed several chances in the second half and fell behind with 12 minutes to go when Rob Wimble's shot hit Tony Timms and wrong-footed keeper Keith Cheal.

But, with time running out, captain Neil Harris broke through and was brought down in the penalty area. Defender Thompson stepped up coolly to fire the spot-kick into the top corner for his fifth goal of the season.

With Wickers appealing for offside, Pagham had gone ahead on 10 minutes when Wimble broke through.

Enzo Benn's first Southwick goal levelled matters 15 minutes later. Dean Lipscombe found Benn, who turned his marker and fired home. Wickers then thought they had gone ahead but Jordan Saunders' shot was adjudged to have not crossed the line.

Harris and Nick Green missed opportunities to give Southwick a 2-1 lead in the second half.

SOUTHWICK v Pagham: Cheal; Lipscombe, T.Timms, Thompson, Constable; Benn, Ricky Timms, Harris, J.Elliott; Saunders, Green. Subs: Ryan Timms (Benn 65), Steele (Elliott 75), Stideford (Saunders 88), Shepherd.
