Three Little Pigs gets runners huffing and puffing

THE opening event of Bexhill Runners' 2007 three-race series, otherwise known as The Three Little Pigs, was a 5K event.

Chris Illman (Cirencester AC) ran a fantastically controlled race to win in 16 minutes and 15 seconds. Runner-up was Daniel Anderson (Hastings AC) in 16.32.

First lady across the line was Gemma Sharpe (Arena 80) in 19.00. The winners of the men's and women's races each took home 50.

Despite the blustery wind and showers, the event had a good turnout with 156 entrants and 148 finishers, including 22 members of Bexhill Runners.

The main 5K race was preceded by three children's races - 500m, 1K and 2K - which had 68 finishers. Seven-year-old Adam Williams (2.13) won the 500m, 12-year-old Georgia Eaton (3.36), took the 1K and 12-year-old Sophie Hunnisett (7.55) triumphed over 2K.

The next event in the series is another 5K on Wednesday July 25, starting at 7pm on Bexhill seafront, next to Bexhill Sailing Club. All finishers will receive a medal and T-shirt.

A strong turnout is expected as the event forms part of the Sussex road racing Grand Prix series, so runners are encouraged to enter in advance to avoid queues on the night.
