Thrilling bowls finals at Polegrove

A GOOD crowd of some 250 spectators were treated to a series of thrilling finals at the 65th Bexhill Men's Open Bowls Tournament at the Polegrove Greens.

The Championship singles was won by Roger Butler of Fassnidge Bowls Club in Middlesex who clinched a tense 21-12 success over Pete Reynolds of Eastbourne.

The father and son combination of Norman Hooper (Wadhurst) and Nigel Hooper (Sidley Martlets) lifted the pairs title with a narrow 20-19 win over Eric Clarkson (Rosemount) and Bill Carter (White Rock).

The triples final was won by Ken Moss (Tye Green), Mick Jones (Crowborough Wolfe) and Dave Johnson (Princes Park) who beat Stuart Holland (Bexhill), Charles Wright (White Rock) and Steve Jeapes (White Rock) 19-18 after an extra end.

Peter Mitchell of Top Flight Supplies of Hastings presented the trophies and the tournament was sponsored by R&R Kitchens of Bexhill and Top Flight Supplies.
