Thrilling win for Robertson

Jimmy Robertson pulled off a tremendous victory in the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship Qualifiers on Tuesday night.

The Bexhill cueman won the last two frames to pip Xiao Guodong 10-9 at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield, after an incredible match in which he only previously led once at 2-1.

Another remarkable feature of the game was that neither player was able to win back-to-back frames between the eighth and the 18th as Guodong took the odd numbered frames and Robertson the even numbered ones.

World no.61 Robertson compiled breaks of 92, 80, 74, 68, 51, 46, 45, 44 and 40, while 65th-ranked Guodong, from China, had runs of 108, 106, 74, 57, 53, 51 and 40.

Former World Amateur Champion Robertson, 24, will face 42nd-ranked Tony Drago in the penultimate round of the qualifiers with the first session on Wednesday afternoon.

The remaining frames are due to be played on Thursday afternoon. Drago, from Malta, put on an exhibition with Robertson at O’Sullivan’s Snooker Club in Bexhill during January.
