Personal best times were smashed in near-perfect running conditions with the winter sun warming the runners from the start and the bracing coastal winds for the most part staying away.

The race is one of the more popular in the national running calendar and it was a sell-out for this year’s event through the city of Brighton and Hove - the 25th anniversary of the race.

The Harriers went off quickly and despite a number of the club’s top runners being unavailable or injured, six runners went under 1:30, each of them clocking best times for this distance.

Tom Mullen continued his excellent form, beating his previous best by almost two and a half minutes to finish 37th in 1:17.06. Steve Dallman was next home, with ever even pacing in 1:24.26, closely followed by Barry Tullett who had a storming race to clock 1:24.29.

Jack Chivers (1:25.31) and Jason Russell (1:25.48) traded positions in the closing miles, with Jack taking it with a PB of over 4 minutes. Ben Adams ran under 1:30 for the first time in 1:28.46, paying for the early pace in the latter stages.

Kat Barrett had a brilliant race to finish 68th in her category, with her best time of 1:37.10. Sarah Banks was next lady home with her best in 1:44.40.
