Toddlers are Lancers' bad omen

LANCERS disputed the script Town hoped to act out and wiped out a 2-0 deficit before a novel, miniature Saffrons pitch invasion heralded their final departure from the Senior Cup on Saturday.

Two tiny kids toddled into the Lancing box after Ben Reeves had struck the Town bar at the other end with what would have been a 3-3 equaliser for the second division side.

After the children had gone from the scene, having continued an interesting afternoon's entertainment, the real danger to Lancers' goal came deep into injury time with Steve Dallaway's clincher for Town after a sublime reverse pass from Danny Simmonds.

The first half had belonged to Town. As early as the fourth minute, Lancers' keeper Tony Di Bernardo had needed to save Simmonds' penalty but after 11 minutes Sean Loft headed Eastbourne in front and, eight minutes later, Dallaway tapped home a second after Loft headed Carl Harris' cross back across goal.
