Tone team are in the zone for Littlehampton 10k

The Littlehampton 10k is in its ninth year and this fast flat race attracted around 1,000 entries this year.

Bognor-based Tone Zone had more than 30 runners competing in good conditions (most of the group are pictured right). Many were chasing improved times after increased summer training schedules organised by head coach Keith Hardwell.

Marius Vitkauskas was the first male Tone Zone runner to finish, logging a new personal best time of 37.37 and finishing sixth overall. Vitkauskas had started the race at his normal quick pace and was closely followed around the course by club-mate Thomas Jago, who finished seventh.

Several runners recorded PBs. Colin Hiscock impressed with a PB of 41.58 and Jim Simmons produced one of the performances of the day knocking two minutes off his previous best with in time of 42.04.

Lousia Proctor was first female over the finishing line for Tone Zone and was third overall. Anna Enes and Karen Harrison finished only seconds behind in fourth and fifth. New personal best were set by Amanda Worne and Natalie Rowland.

In other races, veteran runner Roy Webb competed in the Burnham Beeches half marathon championship. The 79-year-old and the oldest Tone Zone runner has long been an inspiration to other older runners and finished 458th out of 900-plus competitors. In his age category, 75-plus, he gained first place and was awarded a gold medal.

Webb received a telephone call from the British Masters Athletic Federation describing his performance as ‘astounding’.
