Top fencing trio prove a wow in Wales

Chichester Fencing Club's top trio of foilists Toby Lee, George Hendrie and Thomas Hendrie have been in unstoppable form.

At the prestigious Welsh Open, they finished in the top three spots, a truly fantastic result.

Lee was on brilliant form all day but sadly had to fence team-mate and London Olympics hopeful Thomas Hendrie in the semi-finals, where Thomas’ brilliant fencing was just too much.

This left Thomas facing younger brother George in the final – very stressful for everyone concerned, especially their parents.

Thomas proved unstoppable on the day, as he has been at so many national competitions this season, taking the title of Welsh Open champion to add to his ever-growing catalogue of success.

The Aldershot Open was another title to add to Thomas’ collection in another splendid day’s fencing by one of Britain’s brightest young stars. This makes four open wins this season alone with plenty of time for more.

Lee and George Hendrie have been selected for the England team for the Junior Commonwealth Games, another fantastic achievement by both fencers.

George put the icing on the cake by qualifying for the European Games.

There, he will once again represent Great Britain in one of the top competitions a fencer could ever aspire to – a really fabulous achievement for a fencer who is still only 17.

If you would like to come along to Chichester Fencing Club, whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced fencer, you will be extremely welcome.
