Ideal conditions greeted over three thousand runners for this fast, flat road race along the seafront of Brighton & Hove, starting and finish on Madeira Drive.

First Harrier home in a top field in an excellent 23rd place and 9th in Sussex was Russ Mullen with his time of 33:39. Phil Hardaway was 50th in 35.06, closely followed by Tom Mullen on his return from injury in 67th (35:35) and Paul Cousins in 75th (36:04) - also third in his age group.

Continuing her excellent form of late, Kim Lo achieved her first sub-40 10k since having her son (39:40) and was 20th lady overall, 4th in her age group and 7th lady in Sussex.

The conditions also gave the opportunity for several Harriers to clock personal best times, some by a significant margin: Andy Guy (36:58), Jack Chivers (37:54), Steve Dallman (38:18), Richie Amer (41:22), Louise Toomey (41:49), Siobhan Amer (43:37), Kat Barrett (44:32), Sarah Banks (46:27).

There were excellent finishes for Phil Payne (37:59), Andy Biggs (39:16), Mark Davies (39:39) and Carl Bicknell (43:07) despite their exertions in marathons in recent weeks.

Long serving Harrier Dave Walker made a welcome return to the road running scene: “After a long period of absence, I was pleased with my performance in 01:13:42; it was great to run in such a large field again.”
