Tough trip a tonic for Sidley

JOINT manager Peter Heritage sees Sidley United's league trip to runaway leaders Burgess Hill tomorrow (Saturday) as the perfect way to resurrect their season.

United began the campaign in sparkling form with six wins in their first eight games, but inconsistent results and a terrible run of six games straight defeats has left them floundering in mid-table.

In contrast, Burgess Hill have stormed to a five point lead at the top of Sussex Division One with 14 wins from 18 games to confirm their billing as the team the rest have to catch this season.

Despite the 18 point gap between the two sides, Heritage says the game is the perfect chance for United to wake-up and reproduce their early season form.

"Burgess Hill are without doubt the best team in the league and act as a yard stick for the rest of us to reach", he said.

"They pay big money and attract the best players in the area and it would be a mockery if they didn't go up into Southern League football this season.

"We know it will be a hard game but it will be a great chance for the players to raise their game and hopefully we can get a result against them. We also have a few injuries so we will be giving some of the reserve players the chance to show what they can do. It will be difficult but it is a great chance for us to put the inconsistent form behind us and build for the rest of the season."

John Carey is set to return, but Shae Spreafico and Mark Funnell are struggling with injuries. Adam Day and Kevin Rose are unavailable as they are both serving 35 day bans.

Bexhill United take on second placed Midhurst & Easebourne at The Polegrove in Sussex Division Three without Guy Bentley (hamstring) and Oliver Leigh (knee). Kick off 2pm.
