Other backers this year will include the Brickwall Hotel at Sedlescombe and Don Softley, though other sponsorships are yet to be formalised. New secretary Neil Flowerdew is already proposing fresh ideas for the improvement of the annual event.

Tournament president Gordon Leggatt said: “We acknowledge the generosity of all our sponsors and programme advertisers. It’s very good to know that the tournament is so well thought of by local people and traders, and their support helps enormously towards the increasing additional expenditure which the tournament faces every year.”

The tournament will run from Monday August 12 until the following Saturday. Entry numbers should at least equal last year with entries being received from all over the UK.

Prize money will again total £2,000, and trophies will be awarded for ladies’ and men’s singles, ladies’ pairs, men’s pairs and open triples. Programmes will be available for £3 (plus postage) when the draw has been made and copies of the centenary booklet are still available.

Mayor, Cllr Alan Roberts, and Mark Gardiner, of Croft Glass, will deliver the first bowls shortly after 9am on the first morning.

The Charity Open Triples Tournament - where the committee hopes to raise as much as possible for its chosen charities - will take place on Sunday September 29. Applications must arrive by Wednesday August 28 and forms are now available. The entry price is £6 per team and cheques should be made payable to Hastings Charity Tournament.
