Town get that elusive win

BEXHILL Town finally got the win that s eluded them all season - thanks to an own goal.

They travelled to Ifield on Saturday, and returned 2-1 winners.

The return from sunny pastures of both Booth and Rimmer gave the team a balanced look and also enabled Simpson to select near to his ideal squad.

Unfortunately things didn t go to plan and Bexhill went one down within ten minutes of the start when a speculative lob found its way in from some 25 yards out, the travelling support feared the worst!

This prompted what turned out to be a change that turned the game as Simpson switched with Longley and proceeded to dominate the mid-field, shortly after feeding a resurgent Rob Warner who controlled, spun and shot leaving the home keeper no chance from 20 yards only to be denied by the cross bar. The home side hadn t learnt their lesson as only five minutes later a carbon copy move resulted in the bar not coming to the rescue, 1-1 and the game was there to be won by either side

Bexhill came out after the break and started the better of the two sides but this was short lived. The home side sorted themselves out and had a sustained period of pressure resulting in a couple of chances for their forwards only to be denied by an impressive Taylor between the Bexhill sticks. The storm was weathered for some twenty minutes and the home side looked on top but their eagerness to get the points proved to be their downfall. Spaces began to open for the visitors and a mixture of strong defending and quick counter attack gave hope as chances started to come, the first of which to Warner who latched onto a pass from his hard working striking partner Kayne. He chipped the keeper but the chance went narrowly over. The second fell to Kayne himself after the home defence failed to clear, and in the melee a sweet goal bound drive saw the keeper make a superb save from short range.

At last Bexhill s luck was about to change as Richard Anderson s persistence down the left gave him space to cross to the back post, only to be met by a well placed header from the Ifield left back who unchallenged found the corner of his own net.
