Trainers enjoying successes on the Flat

FLAT winners are beginning to flow for West Sussex trainers, with Castle Stables in Arundel securing a fine double on Saturday with Samuel and Badweia.

Trained by John Dunlop, Samuel has some fine place form in top races, including a third to Geordieland in the Yorkshire Cup.

On Saturday at York he came home in fine style in the 1m6f Listed race to win, beating a quality field. He is owned by Nicholas and Philippa Cooper's Normandie Stud at Kirdford.

Dunlop was at Newbury in the evening to greet Badweia after the filly took the 6f maiden race.

He then followed up with an 11-1 winner, Dona Alba at Leicester on Tuesday, confirming the well-being of his horses.

At Newbury, Angmering Park trainer Lady Herries sent out Cleaver, now aged seven, to win over 1 mile 5 furlongs for a fifth victory in the horse's career.

Trainer William Knight, also based at Angmering Park, saddled up King of Dixie at York on Friday to win the Class 3 seven-furlong race.

The four-year-old chestnut colt looks certain to progress further and should win again.
