Trials day determines eligibility for the association for the coming season. Its squads meet fortnightly for a two-hour session from October to April.

During the 2014/15 season, ESJBA had three group squads which trained at centres in Bexhill and Heathfield.

ESJBA was the first ‘development’ group in the county and is now one of the largest in Sussex, providing a safe and professional environment for players that fall just below county acceptance.

The object of the association is to encourage the development of badminton in East Sussex and managing of its squads.

Each year many of its players go on to achieve the next step as a county player and ESJBA works closely with Sussex Junior Badminton.

ESJBA was formed at the end of the 2003 season due to changes with the Sussex County structure. Over the years the committee has changed and the association has gone from strength to strength.

ESJBA started with four squads, but due to the national trend for less players now participating in the younger age groups and to bring its ages inline with national age groups, it has been running three groups for the past five seasons.
