Trophies are quite a catch for Bognor anglers

Members of Bognor Amateur Angling Society have been busy with a series of matches and their presentation night '“ and are building up towards a bream festival later this month.

At the club’s awards night, Tony Chant was named boat champion while Steve Middleton was pier champion. Both were presented trophies by club president Jumbo Sandell.

Megan Bryant-Lawson was a double victor – she was named ladies’ boat champion and junior winner.

The club’s 52nd bream festival takes place on Sunday, May 22, from 7.30am to 4.30pm.

Entry is £10 for seniors and £5 for juniors. You can book in on the day up to an hour before the start at the boat pound, Admiralty Gardens, Felpham or at the RNLI station in River Road, Littlehampton.

Bring your own boat and get out there for the chance to win one of numerous cash prizes.

The event will be put back seven days if called off because of bad weather.

* The society’s beach match at Westend, Bognor, was won by Dan Ottaway with a 3oz rockling. He was the only one to weigh in among 13 who fished.

A match at Bognor pier was won by Steve Middleton.

Results: 1 Steve Middleton, 2 dogfish, 2lb 10oz; Jt 2 Dan Middleton, 1 dogfish, 1lb 10oz; Jt 2 Derek Carr, 1 dogfish, 1lb 10oz; 4 Wayne Hart, 1 dogfish, 1lb 6oz. Heaviest fish: Steve Middleton, dogfish, 1lb 11oz. 9 fished, 4 weighed in. Total agg weight - 9lb 4oz.

A beach open was held at Pagham.

Results: 1 Dean Scott-Denness (Bursledon), 1 whiting, 1 flounder, 14oz; 2 Daren Wilson (Bedhampton), 1 whiting, 1 flounder, 12½oz; 3 Paul Strange (Thornhill), 1 rockling, 1 whiting, 9oz. Heaviest flat fish - jt between Daren Wilson & Dean Scott-Denness, flounder, 8oz; heaviest round fish, jt between Paul Strange and Dean Scott-Denness, 6oz whiting. 33 people fished, 7 weighed in. Total agg weight - 3lb 1oz.

Another match was held at Bognor Pier.

Results: 1 Dan Middleton, 2 dogfish, 3lb 8oz; 2 Steve Middleton, 2 dogfish, 2lb 4oz; 3 Bill Gobey, 2 whiting, 1 flounder, 1lb 9oz. Heaviest fish - Dan Middleton, dogfish, 2lb. 11 people fished, 5 weighed in. Total agg weight - 8lb 2oz.

A beach match was held at the Bognor bandstand, won jointly by Bill Gobey and Steve Middleton, each with a 7oz whiting. They were the only two to weigh in among eight who fished.
