Trophy is a tribute to golfer Steve - and a great fundraiser

Chichester Golf Club's men's midweek roll-up competition for the Stevie B Trophy ended with Ian Blackman, the men's handicap secretary, presenting a cheque for £1,608 to St Wilfrid's Hospice.

The Stevie B Trophy is an annual event comprising 12 medal rounds, one played each month, with the best three rounds scored determining the winner.

This year’s winner was Derick Clacey, who went one better than last year. He is a founder member of the club.

The trophy was presented to the club in memory of Steve Harison-Brown, who was a regular midweek golfer at the club. It was his wish there should be a regular midweek trophy played for at the club and all entry fees and other donations would be passed to St Wilfrid’s Hospice, who looked after him so well in his last few days. Steve’s sister Sandie Walker presented the trophy to Derick (pictured above).

n Chichester veterans’ first major inter-section competition of the year was won by Tony Tobin (left), outright winner in the Spring Trophy. Mike Dunkley was first in group two and three and Barry Miles headed the field in group four.

COWDRAY PARK

Harvey Terry, the 2010 club captain, and ladies’ captain Margaret Curwood have presented a cheque to the NSPCC.

In a very successful year as captains, Harvey and Margaret raised £10,257.99 for their chosen charity.

n The weather behaved as Cowdray Park seniors competed in the third round of four in the Captain’s Prize.

The victorious pair with 73 points were David Heard and Brian Brockhurst, just one point ahead of David Tilley and Mel Milburn.

The fourth and final round is due to be played on March 10.

John Lee shares second spot with Wally Mitchell, John Kitchener and Ken Newberry. on 107 points. First with 108 points, is Cliff Davis.
