Truran lands national singles title

HOMEFIELD Park Bowling Club’s Amy Truran won the Bowls England Women’s National Singles Championship at Royal Leamington Spa this afternoon (August 11).

The 53-year-old defeated Lincolnshire’s Amy Gowshall, from Cleethorpes, 21-10 in the final after winning nine successive ends to recover from a 10-8 deficit.

Truran had earlier defeated England team-mates Sian Gordon (Buckinghamshire) and Sue Davies (Worcestershire) to reach the final.

She will now represent England in the British Isles Championships in Scotland next year and said: “It feels like I am dreaming.

“I have reached the latter stages of both the four-wood and two-wood singles in the past, but it hasn’t yet sunk in that I have actually won the title.”
