Two men’s teams pass their dauntingtest with flying colours at Aldershot

Haywards Heath Harriers set themselves a tough test but passed with flying colours as they sent two men’s teams to Aldershot on Sunday for the Southern Road Relays.

Team captain Tom Mullen, said afterwards: ‘It was a great achievement by the Harriers today, with both the Seniors and Vets really performing in this first rate field of athletes.

“Well done to all who took part in this intense event. It’s a challenging undulating course where you are up against the best. But we put the work in and it was great day for the club.”

The Vets team performed superbly, taking a very impressive 13th position out of the 30 V40 teams competing.

Led brilliantly by Paul Cousins 21:35 in his leg of 6K, Mark Mcloughlin clocked 23:18, Andy Biggs 23:18 and Barry Tullett 23:22.

The senior team took 57th place overall in an extremely high standard event that drew 80 of the top teams from across the south.

The Senior Harriers team was led out by Tom Mullen who clocked 21:23 for the 6k leg.

And he was followed by great times from Phil Hardaway 21:01, Rob Watts 21:04, Phil Payne 22:00, Russ Mullen 21:43 and Josh Pewter 22:18. Russe Mullen is only just back to full competition fitness.

Meanwhile, the Harriers in the 2013 Hellingly 10K Sussex Championships have had the male team medal confirmed, beating Brighton & Hove AC and Lewes AC.

There were fine performances from Rob Watts in 5th place, Phil Hardaway 8th and Tom Mullen11th in what is officially the Harvey Curtis Sussex Road Race Challenge.

In the local Clair Parkrun, Harrier Steve Dallman was 2nd in a new pb of 19:31, while Anthony Wilson was 4th in a pb of 20:20.

Young Harrier Simeon Cousins was 9th, breaking the top 10 in 22.08 and pbs came from both Mark Sykes 24:23, and Graham Kenward 26:09.
