An umpire is coming all the way from Australia to be part of Crowhurst Park Cricket Club’s hotly-anticipated visit from the Lashings All-Stars.
Mackay District League panel umpire Graeme Dunk is making the near 10,000-mile journey from Queensland for the big day on Sunday June 28.
Dunk will be accompanied by Sussex Premier League panel umpires Paul Fuller and John Holland. Park’s official club scorer Mandy Brookes is very much engaged in other duties on the day so Andy Hodder, from Bexhill Cricket Club, will complete the team.
Dunk is returning to Park for the fifth time and will be bringing with him the precious Pelham Buckle - the centrepiece of Park’s emblem - presented to Northern Suburbs Cricket Club on its UK tour in 2014.
The two clubs exchange the buckle - which is said to bring good fortune - every time they get together.
As previously reported, the Lashings squad which will take on Park in a T20 match due to start at 3pm contains a total of 998 international caps. The star names include Gordon Greenidge, Saqlain Mushtaq, New Zealand World Cup hero Grant Elliott and Tino Best.
What’s more, Henry Blofeld - the voice of BBC Test Match Special - will be commentating during the game, as well as participating in the corporate hospitality fun and games.
The day will also feature a junior six-a-side tournament with six local clubs participating and Lashings players will be sharing their expertise at the special open training morning. For further details of Lashings day events, contact Gordon Pells on 077802 449440.
