UNITED ON CASH HUNT

WORTHING UNITED'S big task over the coming months is to attract investment so they can start generating extra cash to finance a first division County League football team.

They see their main new resource initially as the hardstanding training area to the west of the clubhouse. An all-purpose astroturf carpet awaits laying and it is this United need the money for '” around 10,000.

Says manager Ian Browne: "This could generate 500 a week for us by being hired out for community use by local schools and club football and hockey. But we need investment from the local community to get the artificial pitch finished."

Longer-term, United will develop their clubhouse, by extending the internal space and creating a new first floor incorporating the roof space for extra rooms.

On Saturday, United's ground improvements were inspected and approved by the Sussex County League. This completes United's leap from a Grade Three to a Grade One in ground grading.

Concrete walking access around the pitch has been extended to a third side, leaving the west end to be completed in the coming year.

Fencing enclosure of the players and officials between dressing room and pitch has been required, along with dressing room improvements and modifications for both sets of personnel, and improved under-cover seating.
