Unlucky Bexhill slip to defeat

BEXHILL United slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Bosham in the Sussex Third Division.

Len Watkins' side could consider themselves unfortunate as they threw everything bar the kitchen sink at their West Sussex opponents in the second half but couldn't find the killer touch.

This reverse was their third defeat in four games to leave them in the lower reaches of the table.

Watkins said: "It was an excellent game and it was a very exciting game, everyone enjoyed it. We were very, very unlucky. We were as good as them if not better at times. We annihilated them in the second half and we were far fitter than them."

The game began in typically scrappy and direct fashion but it sprung to life when Bosham, who were humiliated 13-0 in the corresponding fixture last season, scrambled home a 21st minute opener from the boot of Bone.

A free header from less than 10 yards at a corner failed to test Aaron Heritage but Edginston prodded in a second two minutes from the break.

The hosts came out for the second half with all guns blazing. With the wind at their backs Bexhill manufactured plenty of promising scenarios but lacked a killer touch in front of goal.

Daniel Rudgley pulled one back on the hour but the equaliser was to prove elusive.

Tim Bigg headed a corner inches too high, Benji Symes' rasping drive flashed just wide and Rudgley skied an effort from six yards. Rudgley had another chance to restore parity but missed his kick with the goal gaping.
