Unlucky Saints denied victory

ST LEONARDS got their Sussex Division One campaign back on track with a captivating 2-2 draw at home to Hailsham Town on Wednesday night.

Saints fielded an extremely attack orientated formation and turned on the style with numerous flowing moves. They were only denied the win their greatly-improved performance deserved by an inspired display from visiting keeper Jamie Furber.

Saints took a seventh minute lead when Dean Thomas sent a rasping volley into the roof of the net from 20 yards.

Hailsham levelled almost immediately through Scott French but Saints should have gone into the break ahead but Furber made a brilliant stop from Dave Flemming.

Greg Nessling produced an equally remarkable save before Sean Ray headed the hosts back ahead only for Tobi Hutchinson to square it up again with an incredible lob.

Saints trounced Pease Pottage Village 10-1 in the second round of the John O'Hara Cup last Saturday and face tough league visits from Whitehawk on Saturday September 6 and Three Bridges on Wednesday, kick-off 7.45pm.
