The Horsham legend meets with club directors on Tuesday to discuss the job which he would like to take over after previous boss Simon Colbran quit on Friday.

He said: “This football team and club mean too much for me not to take the job if I’m offered it on Tuesday. I’d be a fool.

“I know I can turn it around and I’m positive we’ll finish in the top eight.

“Today we gave them two goals. We were the better side for 67 minutes. You can’t give a home team a two-goal advantage. We had a chance to go in 2-1 but there was a really poor decision which cost us the game.

“We were by far the superior team, creating chance after chance but the problem at the moment is we’re not sticking away our chances - not just our strikers but as a group. We’re not being clinical enough. We don’t kill off games.”
