VIDEO: Max power takes Bird from karts to cars

Max Bird is hoping months of preparation pays off when he takes part in the first car race in a Ginetta G40 junior at Snetterton next month.

The 15-year-old Slindon College pupil, who lives in Chidham near Emsworth, will be at the Norfolk curcuit on the weekend of November 7 and 8.

Following another successful season racing karts in which Bird has won the junior championship at PF International kart circuit, he is now focused on final preparation for the start of a new challenge racing sports cars.

The race at Snetterton forms part of preparations for the 2016 season when Bird will join 25 other 14-17-year-old drivers taking part in the 2016 Ginetta Junior Championship that runs alongside the BTCC (British Touring Car Championship), the Porsche GB Supercup and British Formula Ford championships.

The Ginetta Junior championship will take place at all the major circuits in the UK, including Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Thruxton, Donington, Rockingham, Oulton Park and Snetterton and will run between April and October.

The car is a Ginetta G40 with a Ford 1800cc engine built in the UK and the race format sees the Ginetta Junior races immediately precede the British Touring Cars.

Bird has been working out at a gym, cycling, practising on an X-Box and in the car. He has received support from local companies, including Artec Engineering, Cars for Students and Sycamore Cars and hopes to attract further local sponsors before the start of the 2016 season.

To achieve success in motorsport Bird is looking for sponsors who he can work with now and for the future as he makes his way towards racing in the World Sports Car championship and competing at the Le Mans.
