A gold medal in the London Senior Open saw him beat upcoming England star Wesley Greenwich, Michael Hope and Cesar Voicu, which also won him 100 ranking points for the GB senior rankings.

The following week, Vincent travelled to Venray, Holland, with the England squad where he took a well-earned silver medal, after losing to Thijs Van Huigenbos, of the Netherlands.

He said: “Thijs is a good player and my matside coach Trevor Sitlinton was happy that I put in a good performance against him.

“He has a lot of European Cup experience and is a couple of years further forward than me but it was a good test and good experience.”

Vincent now moves on to the World Sport Games, which is held every two years, next week. It is a multi-sport event recognised by the International Olympic Committee, of which judo is one of the many sports.

Vincent said: “The World Sport Games judo is normally dominated by the Eastern Europeans, so it will be good to complete the training camp for experience against different styles and also put in a good performance in the competition and return with a medal.”
