WALKING WOUNDED FAIL TO DELIVER WIN

STEYNING Cricket Club had a great chance of hauling themselves out of the relegation places at fellow-strugglers Hastings on Saturday. They had 15 overs at Hastings last pair but with three bowlers unable to bowl through injury they were unable to force the victory.

Neil Mansbridge was able to bowl just six overs after his left knee locked up. Before the game started, he was struck on the leg while batting, when Andy Simmons was throwing balls down to him.

All-rounder Rob Wakeford was ruled out of the bowling attack almost immedialtely when he caught Toby Finzell off Mansbridge, but bent his fingers into the ground in doing so, so had to field the rest of the game left-handed. Then Greg Barnes landed heavily on his left-ankle in the first ball of his first over, and after he completed his six balls was unable to bowl again.
