WATERPOLO: Crawley's Tom Kane is club's first international

WATERPOLO: Tom Kane earned himself a place in Crawley Swimming Club history when he became their first home club waterpolo player to represent his country in a competitive event.

Tom was selected for the Scotland Under-17 team, taking part in the Eight Nations Tournament, this year held in Brno, Czech Republic, during the Easter break.

Tom is already a member of the Great Britain Under-17 squad and is eligible to play for Scotland as he has a Scottish parent.

Scotland had a tough time in this tournament, nevertheless Tom came away as Scotland’s topscorer, and will have enhanced his growing reputation.

Having joined Crawley in 2011, as a lapsed swimmer, Tom has worked hard for his success, and the combination of Crawley coaching, Basingstoke Regional Training Centre, and national league experience with neighbours, Worthing has given his talent the necessary pathway.

This is Crawley Swimming Club’s 50th Year. Waterpolo was one of the club’s original three disciplines when it was formed in 1964.

Crawley has produced a number of swimmers who achieved international representation over those 50 years, beginning with Amy Charlier, swimming for GB Juniors as early as 1968.

It has taken 50 years to achieve an international water polo representation, it is great to see this happen in this milestone year.
