'We shot ourselves in the foot' '” Marshallsay

WORTHING hit bottom of the table on Saturday after an upper-order batting failure the below-strength lower order could not correct.

They flopped to 18 for four in reply to Pulborough's 216 all out, made after deciding to bat first on a fine wicket with a quick outfield.

Worthing's first four, including 2nd XI player Pat Brice, deputising for the unavailable Casey Lee and slightly unlucky in his dismissal, survived only 36 deliveries between them in the first 31 minutes. Three were bowled, of six in the innings who missed straight deliveries.

Commented vice-captain David Marshallsay, covering for the unavailable David Rogers: "We let ourselves down in the top four and by the manner in which we did it, we shot ourselves in the foot."
