Wealden still in dark on floodlights

WEALDEN manager Andy Gander is hoping his side can play their first game in three weeks at Midhurst & Easebourne tomorrow (Saturday).

Last weekend's match at Storrington was washed out by the weather, and the continued floodlight problems at The Oaks is also proving frustrating.

Wealden paid 40,000 for the installation of their floodlights this season and the electrical supply has proved inadequate.

Power failure brought about the abandonment of a league game against Seaford and the cancellation of a prestigious game against Sussex Cricket Club.

Secretary Kate Gilbert said: 'I've been ringing EDF on a daily basis and I'm told they're going to beef up the supply but I can't seem to get a date for that.

'I understand their power supply has been working with a 160-amp fuse and the lights take 150 without the requirements of the local restaurant and housing.

'It's embarrassing for the club because outsiders will think there is something wrong with our floodlights, yet they are the best in the league.

'It's obviously not a quick job and I shall be demanding a generator unless they can solve the problem soon.

'We'll also be asking for compensation '“ losing the Sussex Cricket Club game cost us a lot of money.'

After Saturday's match Wealden are scheduled to play their next four games at home against Peacehaven (December 16), Crawley Down (Dec 27), Southwick (Dec 30) and Saltdean (January 2).
