Westfield sent packing by United

RYE & Iden United eased to a comfortable 2-0 win at Westfield in the second round of the John O'Hara League Challenge Cup.

A goal in each half did the trick as the Sussex League leaders encountered surprisingly little resistance from their Division Two near neighbours at a bone-dry Parish Field on Saturday.

The conditions spoiled any chance of flowing football and the tie was some 25 minutes old when Nathan Godden had the first sight on goal, blazing high over the Westfield crossbar from eight yards.

United took the lead just before half time when Peter Baker did well to release Matt Syrett who in the act of shooting stubbed his boot into the ground but still managed the send the ball beyond keeper Paul Worthington.

The visitors made sure of victory 18 minutes from time through a precise header from an unchallenged Scott Price.

Duncan Jones went close for Westfield late on but by then the match was already done and dusted.
